Suite Music

Flute - Jill Thatcher: Violin - Karen Snook: 'Cello - Brenda Palmer

Suite Music was started because we felt the need of a supplementary musical diet from all the light music.
We play 17th/18th century music, which was founded in the time of home entertainment when big houses held dances accompanied by their own musicians who played suites, or collections, of dances.
Later the music became independent in its own right, and instead of dance names like galliard, gavotte, minuet etc, their character was described musically such as allegro, larghetto, presto.

We have been invited to play at a variety of venues, lunches, fetes, weddings, dinners, recitals at The Lights and Westridge, receptions and even late night Christmas shopping, where we were required to provide a little 'couth'. In this modern world of instant and portable music entertainment there seems to be a hankering for live classical perfomances

The Tacet Team

The Tacet team is a small brass ensemble, drawn mainly from the brass section of the ALO.

Our anchorman is James, on Tuba. Kate and Don are next up the scale on French and Tenor horns, respectively. On trumpets we have Nicky, Ros (who also composes and arranges some of our music) and Chris, our compere and resident comedian!

We are continuing to play in nursing homes under Age Concern's "Entertainment Showtime" project and have been pleased to receive very enthusiastic feedback from many residents and staff. It is wonderful to see people getting involved in our music, and we all really enjoy these evenings.

On Sunday 15th June 2008, the Tacet Team provided musical entertainment at Penton Mewsey village picnic.
The music was a pleasant mix of selections from musicals, marches, nursery rhymes and popular songs.
Towards the end of the afternoon the skies darkened and rain started which enabled the band to strike up with "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" which received great laughter and applause from the audience

Quintessence

Jill Thatcher: flute, Desmond Graves: oboe, Kate Hughes: Horn, Helgard Pattison: clarinet, Brenda Palmer: 'cello(bassoon)

This group is basically a wind quintet with Brenda as an honorary bassoon. It is a great excuse to get together to make music and have a lot of fun, and tea.
Performance is not our first concern, but we have occasionally been persuaded to, somewhat against our better judgement.
